ALL ABOUT LOVE Part I

'I Love You' 對你來說是什麼?容易說出口嗎?愛聽嗎?愛說嗎?信嗎?懷疑嗎?
法國女權主義者 Luce Irigaray 說 I LOVE YOU 牽涉權力和期望。她認為說 I LOVE YOU的人是期盼着 the beloved one 受落後會將自己變成說者的 ideal image,繼而成為他/她的 object of affection,跟着便被佔有了。

所以,Irigaray 便鼓吹用 I LOVE TO YOU 去代替 I LOVE YOU,原因很像 I SPEAK TO YOU 或 I LISTEN TO YOU 一樣,整個 action 變成一個 indirection,而那個 beloved one 只會簡接地被牽涉在 loving 動作內,保持着距離,因而維繫着愛者與被愛者中間的差異。

我想問:

1. I say 'I LOVE YOU' because I demand a listener and I hope the listener would be able to receive the message. So what is the difference of saying 'I LOVE YOU' and 'I LOVE TO YOU'?

2. The preposition 'to' still suggests a sense of speaker and listener and does not actually remove or eradicate the intention of the speaker.

3. If everything has to be said to make the whole predicament of loving so indirect, why do we not simply say 'I LOVE ABOUT YOU'? At least it sounds more self-involved than communicative and therefore does not necessarily require the listener to respond to it.

Anyway, I love about you because it's all about love.
